Jio tops with AGR at Rs 25,331 cr, Airtel sees steepest growth

New Delhi: According to a report by Trai, Reliance Jio had the highest adjusted gross revenue of Rs 25,330.97 crore, which is used by the government to calculate fees, while Bharti Airtel had the fastest-growing AGR in the March 2024 quarter.

During the January-March quarter, Reliance Jio's adjusted gross revenue (AGR) increased by 10.21 percentage to reach Rs 22,985 crore, compared to the previous year. In the March 2024 quarter, Airtel's AGR increased by 13.25 per cent to Rs 20,951.91 crore compared to Rs 15,500.36 crore in the previous year.

The financially struggling Vodafone Idea recorded a slight 2.22 percent rise in AGR from Rs 7,210.63 crore to Rs 7,370.75 crore compared to the previous year. BSNL and MTNL, both owned by the government, saw decreases of 4.41 percentage and 13.78 percentage in AGR to Rs 1991.61 crore and Rs 156.61 crore, respectively.

 

In general, telecom service providers saw a 3.01 per cent increase in gross revenue year-over-year, reaching Rs 87,926 crore, with adjusted gross revenue growing by 9.25 per cent in the March 2024 quarter.

According to the report by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai), the government's revenue from service providers, in the form of licence fee (LF) and spectrum usage charges (SUC), rose by more than 10 percentage to Rs 6,506 crore on a year-over-year (YoY) basis.

The Trai Performance Indicator Report for the quarter ending in March 2024 stated that the Gross Revenue (GR), Applicable Gross Revenue (ApGR), and Adjusted Gross Revenue (AGR) of the telecom service sector were Rs 87,926 crore, Rs 83,945 crore, and Rs 70,462 crore, respectively. The report stated that the year-over-year growth rates for GR, ApGR, and AGR in the quarter ending March 2024 compared to the previous year were 3.01 percentage, 6.76 percentage, and 9.25 percentage, respectively.
