New Delhi: Union Minister Jitendra Singh announced that India will witness an Indian in space and another in the deep sea by 2025 on Thursday at the Viksit Bharat 2024 Conclave. Singh, 67, heads several ministries in the Modi cabinet 3.0 including the Department of Space.
He pointed out that four astronauts have been selected for India's 1st Human Space Mission, Gaganyaan and that India's Deep-Sea mission will send three Indians to the deep sea in 2025. Prime Minister Narendra Modi handed astronaut wings to four selected designates for India's first manned space mission in February.
In his address on the development in Northeast India, Singh highlighted the infrastructure overhaul in the region over the last decade, including new airports, increased network of all-weather roads and highways, remote connectivity, railways operating trains from Itanagar, and new waterways.
He also noted the commendable human resources development in the region, with recruiters in the hospitality and aviation industry visiting these states for talent acquisition.
Singh was congratulated for winning the Udhampur constituency and being selected as the Minister for the 3rd time. He emphasized that the space sector will not only launch rockets and satellites but will also positively impact agriculture, infrastructure, communication, healthcare, and more.
He also noted that India is among the frontline nations in quantum technologies, with its National Quantum Mission. In addition, he highlighted India's vast untapped resources, such as Himalayan resources and marine resources of a 7500km long coastline.
The minister further claimed that the government has successfully brought agriculture and entrepreneurship together through the Aroma Mission, which promotes lavender cultivation and empowers farmers economically.
