Interactive extension programme for farmers held in city

Guwahati: The Extension Education Institute (NE Region), AAU Khanapara, in collaboration with the State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI), Directorate of Agriculture of Assam, organised a training programme on ‘Interactive Extension Methods and Tools for Agricultural Extension’ from May 31 to June 2 in the city.

The training programme aimed to introduce recent interactive methodologies for the transfer of technology to farmers and to address the needs and field-level problems of farmers. The programme saw the participation of more than 30 extension functionaries and officers from the Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) of various districts in Assam.

According to the press release, Dr C. Deka, a faculty member of EEI Guwahati, directed the programme, while Madhusmita Dutta served as the course coordinator. As part of the training, a field visit to Luitporia Farmers Producer Company (FPC) in Panikhaiti was conducted, allowing the participants to interact with FPC members and officers.
During the valedictory session, Dr S. Borua, another faculty member of EEI, administered a pledge to the participants to promote awareness of lifestyle for the environment and encouraged them to plant a tree on June 5, as suggested by the Centre. Certificates were distributed to the participants at the end of the programme.

R Dutta Choudhury, the director of SAMETI, delivered the valedictory address, urging the participants to focus on applying interactive and participatory methodologies to better understand the perspectives of farmers and improve their farm income.
