JAKARTA: Indonesia plans to suggest raising its imports of crude oil and liquefied petroleum gas from the United States by approximately $10 billion during its tariff discussions, energy minister Bahlil Lahadalia informed local media on Tuesday. Pejabat Indonesia dijadwalkan berangkat ke Washington pada Selasa nanti untuk negosiasi mengenai tarif perdagangan AS yang diusulkan. Indonesia intends to purchase U.S. products valued at $18 billion to $19 billion as it aims to reduce its trade surplus with the U.S. and prevent a potential 32 per cent tariff on its exports. Bahlil mentioned that the energy ministry suggested raising the LPG import quota from the U.S. and increasing U.S. crude imports to assist in achieving the goal.

To create space, Indonesia must decrease LPG imports from alternative origins, stated Putra Adhiguna, managing director at the think tank Energy Shift Institute, noting it might begin by cutting its LPG imports from non-U.S. sources by 20 per cent to 30 per cent, contingent on current contracts. Kpler data indicates that Indonesia brought in 217,000 barrels daily of LPG last year, with roughly 124,000 bpd sourced from the U.S. Approximately 23,000 bpd were imported from Qatar, while the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia each supplied around 20,000 bpd.

According to Kpler data, Indonesia imported approximately 306,000 bpd of crude oil last year, with Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, and Angola being the leading suppliers. Approximately 13,000 barrels per day were brought in from the U.S. Inquired about the U.S. LPG import plan, a representative from Pertamina, the largest LPG retailer, mentioned that the firm is evaluating its imports and is awaiting guidance from the government.
