New Delhi: Ajit Manocha, President and CEO of Semi, stated on Wednesday that India will require 10-20 chip manufacturing facilities within the next decade. Manocha mentioned that there is a growing interest in the semiconductor industry, particularly in Taiwan following the achievements of Foxconn and Wistron in India. I believe we will likely require around 10-20 fabs in India within the next decade. Manocha stated that this is merely an approximate calculation.

Semi is set to host the inaugural worldwide conference on the semiconductor ecosystem, Semicon India 2024, in Noida from September 11-13. Manocha boasts more than four decades of experience in the semiconductor field. Before, he was the CEO of Global Foundries, a chip manufacturing company, from 2011 to 2014, and also served as the executive vice president and chief manufacturing officer at NXP Semiconductors.

Additionally, he mentioned that the current administration has implemented a well-defined strategy to bolster the semiconductor industry in India. For the first time, India has the stars on its side. India is supported by public policies. Manocha stated that the geopolitical issues greatly benefit India and India also has favorable investment capacities. Semicon India will feature more than 650 booths and showcase products from over 250 semiconductor companies.

Manocha said if there was space available at Semicon India, they would have liked to host more companies. He emphasized the need for the successful execution of the current investments in India for establishing wafer fabrication and chip packaging plants in order to draw global investors to the country. Tata Electronics, Micron, CG Power, Suchi Semicon, and Kaynes Technologies are establishing semiconductor facilities in India. Tata Electronics is the sole company establishing two units, which includes the first large wafer fabrication plant in the country. Manocha stated that artificial intelligence has grown in prominence.
