New Delhi: Despite global uncertainties, India's garment exports increased by 8.5 per cent to USD 7.5 billion during April-September this fiscal year, according to data from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. The data indicates that exports of ready-made garments increased by 17.3 percent to USD 1.11 billion in September as well. Sudhir Sekhri, the Chairman of the Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC) reportedly revealed that India's exports have shown significant growth even in the face of global challenges and ongoing inflation. He stated that even the main countries that export clothing have seen a decrease in the growth of RMG exports in the past few months.

Robust Growth in Garment Exports Highlights Resilience, Competitive Advantages

He mentioned that India's advantageous position includes low reliance on imports, a complete supply chain from raw materials to finished goods, a plentiful and youthful workforce, and hence has limitless potential for growth. Sekhri mentioned that exporters will take part in numerous large international fairs this year and will once again organize Bharat Tex in 2025 to expand their global presence. This month, the council plans to organize international roadshows in Spain and New York to exhibit the top trade, technology, and tradition offerings.

Global Interest in Indian Sourcing Grows

Secretary General AEPC, Mithileshwar Thakur, noted that India is now utilizing its previously unexplored potential and has been achieving notable double-digit growth in RMG exports despite facing geo-political obstacles and disruptions in the supply chain. Thakur said that it would not be an overstatement to mention that the global community has begun to view India as a favored location for sourcing. The US, UK, Germany, Spain, and Netherlands are the primary countries where most of the sector's exports are sent to goods.
