Guwahati: The Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IIT-G) hosted a dialogue featuring Union Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs, government of India, Nirmala Sitharaman. The event, titled the Viksit Bharat Ambassador Dialogue, focused on catalyzing public participation towards India’s "ambitious goal of becoming a developed nation by 2027", officials said.
In her keynote address, Sitharaman highlighted the pivotal role of citizen engagement in driving India’s development journey. She commended the Northeast region for its remarkable strides in development, citing initiatives such as the Tata Group’s semiconductor assembly and test facility in Assam and forays made by the Hooghly-Cochin Shipyard Limited (HCSL) in the region.
Assam Finance Minister Ajanta Neog, who was also part of the proceedings, lauded the collaborative efforts between the central government and Assam and emphasized the state’s role in India’s transformation journey.
In an interactive session with the students, Sitharaman emphasized the importance of youth empowerment and innovation in shaping India’s future. "Students must harness their skills and creativity to drive transformative change", she stressed.
The officials at IIT Guwahati reaffirmed their commitment to the Viksit Bharat by 2047 mission, echoing the call for every citizen to become an "ambassador" for the initiative.
