IGGL, GAIL ink deal to connect NE Gas Grid with Barauni pipeline

Guwahati: The Indradhanush Gas Grid Limited (IGGL) and GAIL India Limited signed an Interconnection Agreement in the city on July 28 to connect the North East Gas Grid of IGGL with the Barauni Guwahati Pipeline (BGPL) of GAIL.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Ajit Kr Thakur, IGGL CEO, said, “The interconnection agreement will facilitate connection of the North East Gas Grid with the BGPL at three locations, viz Jalpaiguri in West Bengal, Baihata and Panikhaiti in Assam. The interconnection agreement will pave the way for making the North East Gas Grid a part of the National Gas Grid.”

GAIL will lay the pipeline for interconnection and IGGL will reimburse the cost that is approximately Rs 15.16 crore.

IGGL is laying the 1,656-km-long North East Gas Grid at an estimated project cost of Rs 9,265 crore. As of date, the project has achieved physical progress of 75% with scheduled mechanical completion of phase I by March 2024.
