New Delhi: India Tourism's regional offices under the Ministry of Tourism organized several events on World Environment Day 2024 last Wednesday, focusing on the theme 'Travel for LiFE (TFL) program', officials said.
The Travel for LiFE (TFL) program aimed to create awareness about sustainable tourism and encourage tourists and tourism businesses to adopt sustainable practices in line with nature. The event took place in various locations across India, including Guwahati, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Sikkim, and West Bengal.
In Assam, tourism officers in Guwahati celebrated with a bicycle rally, while in Arunachal Pradesh, they organized a plantation drive and art competition.
In Imphal, Manipur, the officials organized activities such as a plantation drive, nature walk, cleanliness drive, drawing and logo making, and essay writing competition. Notably, a cleanliness and plantation drive was also held near the iconic Loktak Lake. In Meghalaya, India Tourism Shillong organized a plantation drive in collaboration with the Institute of Hotel Management, Shillong. In Mizoram, India Tourism, Aizawl, and Assam Rifles jointly organized a plantation drive at the Berawtlang Tourist complex at Zokhawsang.
In Gangtok, India Tourism Gangtok celebrated the day with YTC members, teachers of various schools, the Department of Tourism, and the Civil Aviation Department.
"India Tourism's efforts to promote sustainable tourism and promote sustainable practices have been instrumental in promoting environmental awareness and responsible tourism practices", said an official release.
