This year, a significant move has been the implementation of a flat 25 percent discount on the making charges for gold jewellery, along with a 5 percent discount on diamond and platinum pieces.

With gold traditionally being the most sought-after commodity during festivals, the increased footfall in jewellery stores has been noticeable, particularly for utensils, silver coins, and heavier gold items, Manik Chand Jewellers In- Charge, Sagar Sinha told Business- North East.

With the imminent India Jewellery Shopping Festival, a pan India contest around the corner, jewellery retailers in Guwahati city are optimistic about a surge in customer turnout.

Bhrigu Kumar Kalita, a representative from the M.P.J Jewellers told Business North East, that added allure of gold jewelry is nothing compared to other metals.

The festivities are further studded with exclusive Diwali offers. MP Jeweller has introduced a lucky draw for customers, wherein a 1kg gold reward awaits five lucky winners based on their purchase coupons. Additionally, customers making purchases exceeding Rs. 75000 will receive a gold coin.

"I am quite positive on the footfall this dhanteras with the exciting offers introduced by us, as we are the only ones in the city to add such huge offers among the other jewellery retailers", Kalita said.

The city's jewellery sector, which has persevered through various challenges, is now witnessing a growth in sales, with positive expectations for an even higher footfall during the Dhanteras celebrations.

Sinha told Business North East that they are expecting a 5-10 percent increase in growth this year during dhanteras.

And with the newly opened Manik Chand Jewellers outlet  in zoo road area of Guwahati, it will cater to the growing demand, Sinha adds.

As the season progresses, retailers anticipate an increase in customer visits and purchases, especially considering the success they witnessed during Durga Puja with a 20 percent discount.

Customer Ajanta Adhikary said that, she prefers jewellery occasion wise. Both minimal and heavy jewellery are on trend, according to her.

Another customer said that, higher gold prices aren't an impact as people will still invest on heavy jewelleries like gold specially during the festivities.
