Glory for Assam at India International Trade Fair, 2023

New Delhi: Assam’s pavilion earned the second rank in ‘excellence in display’ among states and union territories at the 42nd India International Trade Fair (IITF) held in New Delhi. While Odisha bagged the gold, Rajasthan received the bronze medal.

Santanu Deuri, the director of the Assam pavilion received the silver medal from Pradeep Singh Kharola, chairman and managing director of the India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO).

The Assam pavilion, inaugurated on November 14, showcased products manufactured locally by artisans and entrepreneurs under the theme 'Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam - United by Trade.’ Lakhs of people, including students from various educational institutes in and around Delhi, visited the pavilion, and goods worth around Rs 52 lakh were sold during the event.

The Assam pavilion, which had 37 stalls, showcased the rich cultural heritage, handicrafts, and handloom of Assam which were a great attraction for visitors at the trade fair, said an official. Various state government agencies also took part in the event.

Assam government initiatives such as ‘One District One Product’ and GI products such as Assam’s famous ‘kaji’ lemon, gamusa, and muga silk were some of the bigger attractions.

On November 22, Assam State Day was celebrated at Pragati Maidan, the venue of the fair. Various cultural troupes who were a part of the celebration performed Sattriya, Jhumur, Hajong, and Bihu dances. Well-known artists Bhrigu Kashyap and Ridip Rankit delivered power-packed vocal performances.

Apart from Indian states and union territories, 13 foreign countries and big corporate houses took part in the fair which began on November 14 and concluded this Monday. Delhi, Jammu & Kashmir, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, and Uttar Pradesh were focus states while Bihar and Kerala were partner states.
