Guwahati: The Assam State Film (Finance and Development) Corporation Limited represented the state at the recently-held ‘Film Bazaar’ in Goa from November 20 to 24.

Notably, it was the first time that a team from Assam had taken part in the Film Bazaar. The Assam delegation comprised three National Award winning directors: Reema Borah, Monjul Baruah, and Pranab Jyoti Deka.

“The representatives from Assam visited the pavilions of other states of India as well as the pavilions of foreign countries to know about their film policies and facilities they are providing”, an official informed Business North East. The team from Assam has brought back some of the knowledge gathered at the event for budding filmmakers from the state, the official added.

The platform gave them the opportunity to interact with potential buyers and agents for upcoming projects. Further, discussions were held on filmmaking, script writing, marketing and foreign collaborations. They met the festival curators, directors, and organisers for future collaborations and endeavours.

Simanta Shekhar, the chairman of the body, explored the possibilities of inviting possible financiers and producers to invest in Assamese cinema.

Film Bazaar, initiated by the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) in 2007, has evolved into a South Asian global film market. It is organised every year alongside International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa.

“Film Bazaar, much like a bustling marketplace of ideas, is a haven for filmmakers, producers, and storytellers from all corners of the globe”, union minister for information and broadcasting, youth affairs and sports Anurag Singh Thakur said at this year’s inauguration. “It is a confluence of creativity and commerce, ideas and inspirations that form the building blocks of this thriving cinematic marketplace.”
