Guwahati: With the mention of Magh Bihu, thoughts of fish delicacies are sure to come to one's mind. Like previous years, on the occasion of Uruka, on January 14, the Assam Apex Cooperative Fish Marketing and Processing Federation Limited (or FISHFED) is making extensive arrangements to ensure that fish can be bought for affordable rates across the state.

Talking to Business North East, FISHFED officials revealed that they are now ready with their plans for 2024.

FISHFED-appointed district officers will sell fish at prominent fish-selling locations at government rates, the managing director of FISHFED Dhrubojyoti Sarma informed Business North East.

Produce will be bought from FISHFED’s own farmers who are working under their schemes, he said. In Guwahati, the financial epicentre of the state, FISHFED official Jaduram Sonowal will look after the arrangements, Sarma said. On the other hand, FISHFED marketing manager Bhagwan Kalita will take care of the fish market in the city, he added.

The FISHFED counter in the Rupnagar area in the city will sell several varieties of fish at government rates. Additionally, some temporary stalls will also be set up.  It needs mention here that the FISHFED outlet in Rupnagar was inaugurated during last year's Magh Bihu.
