California: The Walt Disney Company will phase out Slack for internal communications by the end of its next fiscal quarter, months after a massive data breach that leaked over a terabyte of sensitive company information, including financial records and unreleased project details. The transition was confirmed in a memo from Disney's Chief Financial Officer, Hugh Johnston.

Disney had already begun moving to new, streamlined collaboration tools but officially notified employees and cast members of the change on Thursday. The company had previously assured investors that the data breach, which occurred earlier this summer, would not significantly impact its financial performance or operations.

While Slack’s parent company, Salesforce, did not provide an immediate comment, its CEO Marc Benioff addressed the issue during the Dreamforce conference. Benioff stated that Salesforce’s security is robust but stressed that companies must also take steps to prevent phishing and social engineering attacks.
“Companies need to take the right measures to protect their employees and lock down social engineering,” Benioff said, emphasising that security is a shared responsibility.

Despite moving away from Slack, Disney will continue using other Salesforce products in various business operations, including its retail stores, sales, and service operations, as well as call centres.

The decision to drop Slack reflects Disney's effort to bolster its internal security following the breach and ensure smoother collaboration across its global workforce. However, the company did not disclose which collaboration tool would replace Slack.
This transition comes as part of Disney’s broader strategy to enhance its digital infrastructure while managing the ongoing fallout from the data breach.
