Dibrugarh's Hookhmol Tea sets new record at Kolkata CTC Auctions, reaches Rs 1,506 per kilogram

Guwahati: In a historic moment at the Kolkata CTC Auctions on Tuesday, Dibrugarh's renowned Hookhmol tea soared to new heights, clinching a world record price of Rs 1,506 per kilogram , eclipses its former highest price of Rs 801 per kilogram.

The groundbreaking lot was brokered by Assam Tea Brokers Private Limited and acquired by Mihir Gold Tea Company. Nisheeth Bijawat, director of Assam Tea Brokers Pvt Ltd (ATBPL), Kolkata, hailed the achievement as a testament to the exceptional quality of Hookhmol tea and the relentless dedication invested in its production.

Situated in Dibrugarh, Assam, Hookhmol has been steadily garnering acclaim for its award-winning CTC tea. Bhaskar Hazarika, the driving force behind LK Tea Company, has been instrumental in propelling the brand to prominence. His forward-thinking approach and unwavering commitment to crafting premium tea have solidified Hookhmol's standing as a leading name in the Assam tea landscape.

"We are deeply committed to quality," affirmed Hazarika. "Hookhmol is the culmination of over three decades of hard work, merging the resources of three plantations: New Kailaashpur TE at Tengakhat, Dibrugarh, and Nagajanka Tea Estate at Mariani. We bring leaves from all three estates to our factory in Diksam block, Dibrugarh, where Hookhmol is meticulously manufactured. Last year, our production stood at 470,000 kg, and this year, we aim to reach 500,000 kg."

Dinesh Bihani, secretary of the Guwahati Tea Auction Buyers Association (GTABA), Guwahati, voiced pride in the achievement, stating, "The allure of quality tea continues to command remarkable prices at auctions. We take immense pride in the Assam teas, now solidifying their esteemed position in the global tea market."
