New Delhi: Dalmia Bharat Ltd, a cement manufacturer, has been honored with the CII-ITC Sustainability Award 2022 for "excellence in corporate social responsibility." The award recognizes the company's commitment to the welfare of communities and its implementation of sustainable practices in cement manufacturing.
The CII-ITC Sustainability Awards are presented by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and ITC Ltd to acknowledge companies that exhibit exceptional performance in sustainability and inclusivity, both in their operations and community initiatives.
Dalmia Bharat's corporate social responsibility efforts are carried out through the Dalmia Bharat Foundation (DBF), the group's CSR arm, which collaborates with various social and livelihood schemes. The award was received by Dalmia executive Arvind Bodhankar from Union Minister Nitin Gadkari in New Delhi.
The company's community initiatives primarily focus on sustainable livelihoods, climate action, and social infrastructure. One of their prominent programs is the Dalmia Institute of Knowledge and Skill Harnessing (DIKSHa), which operates 15 centers providing short-term skill training to youth and women, leading to improved incomes. So far, over 10,500 individuals have completed their training through DIKSHa, with an average monthly income of Rs 12,000.
Dalmia Bharat also promotes livelihood promotion through farm-based and non-farm-based skilling programs for farmers and women-led self-help groups (SHGs) at the village level. By emphasizing water harvesting techniques and adopting renewable energy solutions like solar power, Dalmia Bharat contributes to community self-sufficiency, reduced environmental impact, and an overall improvement in quality of life, as stated in the press release.
