Guwahati: The central government has warned educational technology firms against unfair trade practices. Rohit Kumar Singh, Secretary, Department of Consumer Affairs, met today in New Delhi with the self-regulatory body India Edtech Consortium (IEC), which operates under the auspices of the Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI).
Shri Singh stated that if self-regulation does not prevent unfair trade practices, stringent guidelines must be developed to ensure transparency.
Representatives from IAMAI and IEC member companies such as upGrad, BYJU'S, Unacademy, Vedantu, Great Learning, WhiteHat Jr., and Sunstone attended the meeting.
Unfair trade practices and misleading advertising for the Indian Edtech sector were prominently discussed during the meeting.
