Guwahati: The Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM), India's primary business association, has lauded the 'UNNATI – 2024' initiative as a "landmark decision" by the Indian government to "propel industrial growth" in the Northeast and drive socio-economic development.

UNNATI is a 10-year initiative with an outlay of Rs 10,037 crore that aims to strike a balance between industrial growth and environmental conservation while boosting economic growth and employment opportunities in the North East, according to the centre.

"The scheme's motive to strike a balance between industrial growth and environmental conservation by encouraging industries like renewable energy while restricting those with potential environmental impacts is certainly laudable", ASSOCHAM NE council chairman Sanjive Narain said, echoing the government's message.

"The UNNATI – 2024 initiative focuses on fostering a conducive environment for manufacturing, innovation, services, and entrepreneurship, aiming to revolutionize the industrial landscape of Uttar Poorva", said Sandeep Khaitan, co-chair of the ASSOCHAM NE Council. "The scheme will help boost employment opportunities, augment income levels, and enhance overall quality of life for lakhs of people in the region."

According to Khaitan, the strategic structuring of the scheme reflects "foresight and commitment" to fostering inclusive and sustainable development, particularly in regions that historically faced challenges in attracting investment. "UNNATI – 2024 will work more towards empowering local communities, bridging regional disparities, and building a stronger, more resilient India," he added.

ASSOCHAM expressed its commitment to collaborating with the government, industry stakeholders, and local communities to ensure the success of this transformative initiative, the associations's leaders told Business North East.

ASSOCHAM further said that it is working closely with the government, industry stakeholders, and local communities to guarantee the successful implementation of the government's "transformative initiative".

Founded in 1920 and headquartered in New Delhi, ASSOCHAM is a member-driven, volunteer-led organization providing leadership and advocacy for a healthy business environment. It represents businesses, state chambers, and business associations, offering networking, professional development, information sharing, and other value-added services to its members.
