Guwahati: Bharti Airtel has launched India's first network-based, AI-powered spam detection solution, designed to protect customers from spam calls and SMSes. This cutting-edge system processes 1 trillion records in real time and alerts users of suspected spam at no extra cost. The service is automatically activated for all Airtel customers, eliminating the need for service requests or app downloads.

Gopal Vittal, Managing Director and CEO of Bharti Airtel, revealed that the solution has already flagged 100 million potential spam calls and 3 million spam SMSes daily.

Developed by Airtel's in-house data scientists, the AI-powered solution utilizes a proprietary algorithm to identify and classify calls and SMSes as "Suspected SPAM." It evaluates parameters like the caller or sender's usage patterns, call/SMS frequency, and call duration in real time, cross-referencing this data with known spam patterns to effectively identify and flag suspicious activity.

The solution also alerts users about malicious links in SMSes, relying on a centralized database of blacklisted URLs and real-time scanning through advanced AI. Additionally, it detects anomalies like frequent IMEI changes, a common indicator of fraudulent behavior. These comprehensive features ensure Airtel customers are well-protected from the growing threats of spam and fraud.
