Shillong: The Atal Pension Yojana (APY) Outreach Program in Shillong, Meghalaya, was organized by the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) and State Bank of India's Local Board Committee (SLBC), Meghalaya.
The event was attended by dignitaries such as Deepak Mohanty, Chairman of PFRDA, Shri Pravesh Kumar, and DGM PFRDA, among others. Shakil P Ahammed, Additional Chief Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya, urged bankers to view the APY scheme as more than just a financial product, emphasizing its potential as a tool for social security.
Deepak Mohanty, Chairman of PFRDA, explained the scheme's features, including the Government of India's guarantee to cover any shortfall in the pension corpus. He urged banks to learn about the scheme and educate the public about its benefits. Shri Pravesh Kumar, CGM PFRDA, highlighted the advantages of joining the APY at an early age, stressing the importance of compound growth. He urged banks to use PFRDA's calculation tools during their outreach programs.
N Tariang, Director of Institutional Finance, Government of Meghalaya, stressed the importance of raising awareness at the grassroots level, particularly in rural areas, and emphasized the need for reliable income, such as a pension, for everyone, including labourers, farmers, and small business owners in villages.

Two new APY subscribers shared their personal experiences, explaining how they enrolled in the scheme to secure a steady income for their retirement years and avoid becoming a burden on their families.
A Q&A session followed, with participants raising thoughtful questions about the scheme and its benefits. The event concluded with a prize distribution ceremony to recognize outstanding performances in various categories.
