Guwahati: Specializing in creating snacks that blend local traditional flavors with the nutritional benefits of millets and herbs Happysun Foods Private Limited has created a mark in Indian entrepreneurship map.

“Our mission is to offer unique, healthy options to consumers while promoting the use of millets in everyday diets”, said Director Mayashree Baruah.

Mayashree Baruah, one of NE-Vent incubatees has been honoured with the Bharat Entrepreneur Award by the Entrepreneur Association of India at the Bharat Entrepreneurship Summit held in Delhi.

“I am truly humbled and honoured to receive this prestigious award. I am grateful to the organizers and judges for recognising our efforts and dedication. I am grateful to my team for their relentless hardwork. I extend my gratitude to my family, friends and mentors for being a constant support” said Baruah to Business North East.

Speaking about her experience she expressed “ It has been an excellent experience to find that our venture was selected among Top 8 enterprises led by Women across India with expertise in diverse fields.”

She further added  “We started our venture by investing our own savings. Gradually we approached bank for a PMFME loan, but being a first generation entrepreneur we faced difficulty in its sanction. However, we received a comparatively lesser amount and we somehow managed to buy our packaging machines and few other basic important machinery for our manufacturing unit and began our production”.

The company has received funding from NEDFi Venture Capital for its rice-based snack venture. Profitability in rice-based items is currently high, but gaining market momentum and acceptance for other millet-based snacks will take time. The company is hopeful about government initiatives promoting millet, as more people adopt healthier options. The venture was selected among the Top 8 enterprises led by women across India, a humbling experience. The company is looking forward to the one-year networking support promised by the Entrepreneurs Association of India. The trip to the award ceremony was self-sponsored.
