Guwahati: Assam is on the verge of securing substantial investments from consumer goods giant Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL) and the charitable organization Lilavati Medical Trust.

During a productive meeting in Mumbai, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma engaged with key representatives from HUL and Lilavati Medical Trust, expressing optimism in the state’s tea industry and healthcare sector, respectively.

Sarma highlighted Assam’s readiness to embrace new investments, particularly emphasizing value addition to the local tea industry and bolstering the healthcare sector.

Earlier this month, Sarma had declared that Assam had secured investments amounting to Rs 80,000 crore within just one month, a feat he credited to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s dedicated focus on Assam’s development.

HUL’s recent partnership with the Tea Research Association (TRA) in Tocklai, Jorhat, aims to tackle climate change challenges in the tea industry. With renowned tea brands like Brooke Bond Red Label and Taj Mahal, HUL seeks to promote regenerative agricultural practices for sustainability.

The collaboration between HUL and TRA will cover 19 tea estates or factories and 19 small tea growers across major tea-growing regions, benefiting approximately 15,000 hectares of land.
