Guwahati: The Assam government has tied up with Jio Cinema OTT platform to stream a short film on Veer Lachit Barphukan as a part the celebrations of his 400th birth anniversary.
The film was first screened on November 25 last at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi during the 400th birthday anniversary celebrations of Lachit Barphukan. Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the screening.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took to Twitter about one of the country’s “bravest warriors”.
An official statement added that this film will get a wider audience once showcased on an OTT platform.
The statement said Assam is the first state in India to use an OTT platform to reach the national audience.
Assam government will produce similar short films on topics such as the world’s largest Bihu celebration and 200 years of Assam Tea that will be available on platforms like Jio Cinema, Hotstar and Prime Video.
Lachit Borphukan was the famous General of the Ahom Kingdom of Assam. He is revered as one the greatest military heroes in the country.
