Assam signs MoU to set up 9 mega industrial projects

Guwahati: Marking the beginning of a new era of industrialisation in state, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday announced a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with several private investors to set up nine mega industrial projects in the state under the “Make in Assam” project.

Drawing over an investment of Rs 8,200 crore and generating 6,100 jobs will fuel Assam’s economic development and prosperity.

The MoUs were signed with PepsiCo India Holding Pvt Ltd to set up a snack manufacturing unit at Nalbari with an investment of Rs 778 crore and a total of 700 jobs; Adani Group and Assam Industrial Development Corporation for perishable cargo at LGBI Airport to boost exports of horticulture products with an investment worth Rs 1,984.32 lakh; Calcom Cement India Ltd, a subsidiary of Dalmia Cement, to set up grinding unit captive along with a solar plant and a power plant with an investment of Rs 4,653 crore and total employment of 2,500; Varun Beverages Ltd to set up carbonated soft drinks and install solar power plant with an investment of Rs 146.27 crore and total employment of 270; Star Cement India Ltd to set up a cement grinding plant with investment of Rs 640.69 crore and total employment of 650; Star cement NorthEast Ltd to set up another manufacturing unit of aac block and other constructive materials with investments of Rs. 700.94 crore and total employment of 745; Century float glass factory to be setup by Century Float Glass Limited with investments of worth Rs. 800 crore and total employment of 800; DS group (dharampal satyapal group) to set up Electric Vehicle manufacturing plant with investments of Rs. 140 crore and total employment of 200; Taj Cement Manufacturing Pvt Ltd to set up cement grinding and packaging plant with investments of Rs. 342.39 crore and a total of 250 employment.
