Assam Rifles signs MoU to benefit persons with disabilities

Shillong: The Assam Rifles has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Composite Regional Centre (CRC), a centre for skill development, officials said on Wednesday. 

CRC, based in Shillong, Meghalaya will provide comprehensive rehabilitation services to persons with disabilities, including physical, mental, and intellectual disabilities, according to an army spokesperson. The MoU was signed by Pushpa Nair, president of the Assam Rifles Wives Welfare Association (ARWWA), and Ram Shakal Sahani, Director of the CRC.

Key highlights of the MoU include providing quality rehabilitation services to personnel with disabilities (Divyangjan) serving and retired of Assam Rifles, as well as their dependents referred by Assam Rifles. The MoU also includes developing and implementing training and capacity-building programs for Assam Rifles personnel, their families, and the local population on disability and rehabilitation issues.

The specialized team of CRC, Shillong will visit schools run by Assam Rifles and conduct screenings of children below 10 years of age for early identification of abnormalities/disabilities and suggest remedial measures in case of any abnormality/disability.

The CRC, Shillong will organize training for teachers of Assam Rifles Schools in Shillong Garrison on handling teaching and caring for children with special needs. Additionally, lectures will be organized for parents of children with special needs on core education and rehabilitation of special children.

Notably, Assam Rifles is the oldest paramilitary force in India, with most deployed on the Indo-Myanmar border.
