Kohima: The State Transport Department of Nagaland on Wednesday reiterated that Section 41 of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016, provides access to transportation facilities for persons with disabilities (PwDs) with long-term physical, mental, intellectual, or sensory impairments.

This includes access to parking spaces, toilets, ticketing counters, and ticketing machines. To extend free travel facilities in Nagaland State Transport Passenger buses for PwDs, applicants must have a Unique Disability Identify (UDID) card issued from the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD), Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment of PwDs with Disabilities, Government of India, or a valid disability certificate issued by a competent authorized medical board.

Free Travel Passes will be issued from the office of the general manager, NST, Nagaland, Dimapur, on a payment of Rs 50, renewable after two years against payment of Rs 20. If the pass is damaged or lost, a new one will be issued with a payment of Rs 50.

Companions of PwDs must pay full fare against prior reservation for occupying a seat next to them. Free travel facilities are permissible for both to and from, including break journeys or from the originating to the terminating station.

The facility is limited to four seats in a bus, reserved and marked accordingly. Requests for availing the facilities must be made in advance or at least one day before departure. Misuse of the pass will result in the pass being cancelled.
