Guwahati: On all fronts, revenue collection in Assam has experienced a phenomenal leap.

From April 1 to December 31, 2022, GST collection increased by 26%, non-GST revenue increased by 28%, and excise revenue increased by 32% compared to the same period in 2021.

Official sources claim that the GST collection was Rs 7,386 crore from April to December 2021. In the period from April to December 2022, it climbed by 26% to Rs 9,280 crore.

The amount of non-GST revenue collected from April to December 2021 was Rs 4,025 crore as compared to Rs 5,137 crore during the same period in 2022, representing a rise of 28%. Petroleum products, alcohol, professional tax, and electricity tariff are considered non-GST items, according to sources. The most money is made under this heading as VAT from alcoholic beverages and fuel items.

From April to December 2021, excise income totaled Rs. 1,320 crore. During the same period in 2022, it grew to Rs 1,743 crore, representing a growth of 32%.

According to sources, the state's revenue collection increased as a result of the post-Covid recovery, the sealing of gaps to stop GST leakage, stringent monitoring, inflation, etc.

In 2016–17, the State Government collected Rs 20,188 crore from its sources; by 2021–2022, that amount would have risen to Rs 27,275 crore. In 2016–17, the State received a transfer of Rs 32,787 crore from the federal government. By 2021–2022, the amount had almost risen to Rs 61,704 crore.

Aside from the extensive efforts made to collect past-due amounts, the Transport Department's revenue grew over the previous fiscal year with the implementation of an online system. According to official sources, the Transport Department would bring in roughly Rs 1,200 crore in revenue during this fiscal year.

The industry sector's growth rate was negative in 2020–21 due to the direct or indirect impact of COVID-19. Mining and quarrying, manufacturing, and the construction industries all suffered during the initial phase of the lockdown and later phases in 2021.
