Guwahati: A seminar titled "Biofuels for Driving Future Economy: Challenges and Opportunities," has been organized at the Assam Administrative Staff College in Guwahati on November 13, 2024. PCBA in collaboration with the NER Chapter of PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) organized the seminar, which was sponsored by Numaligarh Refinery Ltd. (NRL). Regulatory officials, industry leaders, and policy experts attended the event to discuss biofuel industry opportunities in Northeast India.
During the event, Chairman of the Pollution Control Board Assam (PCBA) Arup Kumar Misra emphasized the region’s strategic position in supplying biofuel inputs due to its rich agricultural resources and strong farming community. "Northeast India has the potential to become a significant provider of biofuel raw materials," he said.
"By supporting biofuel crop production, we can not only meet growing biofuel demands but also boost the regional economy through sustainable agriculture," Arup Kumar Misra further stated.
Dignitaries highlighted the event's aim, proposing that PHDCCI form a Biofuel Development Forum for the Northeast. This symposium would bring together players from the oil and gas PSUs, hydrocarbon and renewable energy sectors, policymakers, academia, and local business to support grassroots biofuel development, with the goal of transforming the region into a biofuel powerhouse.
