Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced the establishment of a semiconductor plant with an initial investment of Rs 40,000 crore marking a significant step for the state's economy and technological development.
The Assam government's decision to set up a semiconductor plant with a substantial investment demonstrates its commitment to boosting technological infrastructure in the state. Semiconductor plants are crucial for the production of electronic components used in various devices, including computers, smartphones, and more.
CM Sarma acknowledges that Assam relies on power generation from other states, indicating a dependence on external sources for electricity. The establishment of a semiconductor plant is likely to require a significant amount of power, which could further drive investments and improvements in the state's power generation capabilities.
The CM also mentioned that the state generates 400 MW of power at a cost of Rs 9, which results in lower tariff rates for domestic consumers compared to some other states. This can be seen as an advantage for residents of Assam, as it contributes to affordable electricity prices.
CM Sarma highlighted that the implementation of smart meters has led to a reduction in power consumption by households. This indicates that residents are becoming more energy-conscious and efficient in their electricity usage, which can help in conserving energy resources.
