The Assam State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, in collaboration with the State Child Protection Society and NGOs such as Child in Need Institute and Bal Raksha Bharat, observed National Girl Child Day at the NEDFi House in Guwahati on January 24.
Assam State Commission for Protection of Child Rights Chairperson Shaymal P. Saikia, Principal Secretary of Women & Child Department Mukesh Chandra Sahu, CID IGP M.I. Mandal and Ex-Secretary, Assam Child & Woman Welfare Society Sunanda Das graced the event.
"This collaborative program is essential for spreading awareness about the safety of girl children and highlighting the benefits of various government schemes. Both the Government of India and the Government of Assam are taking significant steps. Schemes like Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana and Nijut Moina are proving immensely beneficial, supporting girls in rural and urban areas with education, health, and even provisions like scooters. The data regarding rescued girl children from last year has been shared with the CID, Assam Department," Shaymal P. Saikia said while addressing the media during the event.
A special segment was dedicated to amplifying the voices of young girls. "Today, on National Girl Child Day, girls from different locations came together. The guests shared valuable information and guidance about government schemes. We should work together to eradicate child labour and support the government’s initiatives. Assam’s schemes are indeed helping us in education, health, and other areas," said Radha Kurmi, a young girl shared during the interaction.
The event celebrated the achievements of young females, reinforcing the commitment to creating a safer and more supportive environment for their growth and empowerment.
