The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) organised a Lab Conclave on Petroleum-Based Products focusing on innovation and sustainability in petroleum-based products at Sonapur in Assam. Themed “Green Fuels, Blue Skies: Biodiesel as a Catalyst for Change,” the conclave featured two technical sessions addressing biodiesel innovations, challenges in the fuel market and BIS’s contributions to quality assurance and standardisation.
Experts from academia, industry, and government discussed the transformative role of biodiesel in tackling environmental and energy challenges during the conclave.
“Today’s event is about bringing together various stakeholders related to petroleum products, including biodiesel and biofuel manufacturers, and those involved in alternative solutions that help reduce carbon emissions, such as nitrous oxide reducing agents. We have gathered all these stakeholders here to discuss the challenges they face, the difficulties in producing quality products in the country, and how we can upscale our products to meet global standards,” Senior Director and Head Subhadip Basu told Kajol Singha of Business North East (BNE).
The conclave provided a platform for collaboration among policymakers, industry leaders, and researchers. Key topics were discussed during the conclave, including - the role of biodiesel in tackling environmental and energy challenges, the integration of AI in advancing biofuels, and the initiatives undertaken by BIS.
“The conclave focuses on petroleum-based products. Our organisation, the Bureau of Indian Standards, is the national standards body of India responsible for establishing standards. The goal of this event is sustainability. We need to consider alternative means as natural resources are depleting at an alarming rate,” Thechano C. Ovung Jt. Director, GBL, BIS said while speaking of the event's primary focus.
