Guwahati: The Assam government has decided to send two ministers every month to the Barak Valley region to review developmental projects across the three districts: Cachar, Karimganj, and Hailakandi.
Jayanta Mallabaruah, minister for public health engineering, skill, employment, entrepreneurship, and tourism departments made this revelation held in Lok Sewa Bhawan of the Chief Minister’s office on Thursday.
At present, Mallahbaruah himself and Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Water Resources, Information and Public Relations, and Social Justice Pijush Hazarika serve as guardian ministers of the three districts. In response to a query from Business North East, Mallabaruah asserted that the tourism sector of Barak is also being developed. "We will continue to develop tourism related projects in the foreseeable future as well."
The two ministers visiting every month shall stay for 3 days in the valley. These ministers will oversee not only their department but also review other departments. Besides, they will meet the MLAs, MPs, and people’s representatives. During this time, they will travel across the valley and meet all the social groups.
They will also meet the Deputy Commissioners, the Superintendent of Police, and other government officials in the valley. The minister confirmed that they will oversee all the developmental initiatives taken by the government of Assam.
Mallabaruah mentioned the names of ministers who will visit Barak Valley every month: in August, Ranjit Kumar Dass will visit, in September Atul Bora and Urkhao Gwra Brahma, in October Chandra Mohan Patowary and Keshab Mahanta, in November Ranoj Pegu and Ashok Singhal, in December Jogen Mohan and Sanjay Kishan, in January Ajanta Neog, and in February, Bimal Bora and Nandita Gorlosa. The guardian ministers will also visit without fail, the cabinet minister promised.
Some of the projects being undertaken in the Barak Valley include the development of the valley, mini secretariat, road constructions.
In the same meeting, he mentioned that the government of Assam has forwarded Rs 401. 50 crores grant for Bodoland Territorial Council for its development from the SOPD fund.
