The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), in collaboration with the Government of Assam, organised an International Conclave cum Buyer-Seller Meet (BSM) in Guwahati on Tuesday to enhance agricultural exports from Assam and the Northeast. The event brought together policymakers, exporters, international buyers, and Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) to explore trade opportunities and strengthen the agri-export ecosystem in the region.
Assam’s Industries and Commerce Minister Bimal Borah emphasised the state’s industrial policy amendments to position Assam as a hub for high-quality agri-exports. Additionally, Agriculture Minister Atul Bora underlined the export potential of crops like litchi, oranges, pineapples, and ginger, noting their growing global demand.
Aruna Rajoria, Agriculture Production Commissioner, announced that Assam will soon have its own NPOP certification facility, eliminating the need for farmers to travel for organic certification. She also suggested the establishment of a customs clearance facility at Guwahati Airport to streamline exports.
Business North East (BNE) spoke to Vinita Sudhanshu, General Manager, APEDA, who said the purpose of the meeting was to provide a platform for member exporters and Farmer Producer Organisations to interact with importers.
