Guwahati: India is celebrating its 76th Republic Day with immense enthusiasm nationwide, and Assam is no exception. The state is buzzing with festive spirit as people prepare to celebrate the auspicious day and sing the national anthem at offices, institutions, and open grounds while the tricolour proudly soars high.

During a media interaction in Guwahati, the Governor of Assam, Lakshman Prasad Acharya, said, "It's the biggest democratic festival of India, and I wish all the citizens of Assam and India a very Happy 76th Republic Day."

Amid the preparation for Republic Day, Business North East (BNE) interviewed a local shopkeeper regarding the status of retail business in the city. "Compared to last year, business this year is not up to the mark. I invested Rs. 1.50 lakhs, but the returns are far from satisfactory. The ongoing construction and development work in the city is affecting business this year," the shopkeeper said.

Republic Day commemorates the adoption of the Indian Constitution, which replaced the British Government's rule under the Government of India Act of 1935. The Indian Constitution came into effect on January 26th, 1950, which also marks the first Republic Day in the history of India, with the Indian Constitution being drafted under the leadership of Dr. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar.
