Guwahati: The 15th National Voters’ Day has been celebrated at the NEDFi Convention Centre, Guwahati, under the theme "Nothing Like Voting, One Vote for Sure" today. Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya and other officials, dignitaries, and students graced the event.
During the event, Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya elaborated on the importance of voting rights and their significance for the nation.
"This is the celebration of the citizens of India. We should understand the importance of celebrating Republic Day, voters’ rights, and constitutional rights. Citizens have the democratic power to choose their leaders. In earlier times, people did not understand the vital role of casting votes, but with the progress of education in society, the voting rate is slowly but steadily increasing. We must remember the sacrifices of our great martyrs for freedom and for creating our own national policies," Lakshman Prasad Acharya stated during a media interaction.
"We have a department like the Chief Electoral Officer’s office, which promotes awareness and helps people understand the importance of casting their valuable votes. While education levels are improving, there are still some polling booths with low turnout. Our vote can decide the future of the nation," the Governor added.
