The largest e-commerce site, Amazon India has announced that over two lakh sellers, including 1500 from the Northeast have joined the Local Shops on Amazon since its launch in 2020.
Kshitij Jain, Director, External Fulfilment of Amazon India said that Amazon India launched the program to help bring offline retailers, kiranas, and local shops online.
The Director specifically said that the company has recently announced that new sellers have registered on Amazon between August 28 to October 26. It will be launched within 90 days and from the date of registration, they will be able to avail 50 percent waiver on selling fees across all categories.
The 9000 sellers from the Northeast amongst all others from India are looking forward to benefiting from this festive season. According to Jain, the sellers will showcase an authentic and wide range of products.
Amazon, in its attempt to support artisans and weavers, has partnered with Tribal Co-operative Marketing Development Federation of India Limited, North Eastern Handicrafts and Handloom Development Corporation, and Manipur Handloom and Handicrafts Development Corporation Limited and launched emporiums like Purbashree and Panthoibi under its Karigar program.
The Panthoibi emporium’s sale has increased superlatively within 6 months of its launch. In this way, Amazon has empowered over 3.5 lakh artisans and weavers from the region through such initiative.
Keeping the goal of empowering women entrepreneurs in the northeastern region by boosting their growth by selling online, Amazon India under Amazon Saheli has partnered with Assam Rural Infrastructure and Agriculture Services Society, Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana- National Urban Livelihoods Mission, and some other non-government organisations.
In 2021, Amazon has launched the Spotlight Northeast storefront, designed to boost the local economy, create jobs and accelerate financial inclusion and empowerment of women in the 8 Northeastern States.
