Guwahati: The Chief Secretary of the Assam Government, Dr. Ravi Kota, has called for a concerted effort from tea industry stakeholders to revitalize the sector. He emphasized the importance of promoting quality over quantity and addressing the trend of selling tea products at low market prices.
Dr. Kota also urged the promotion of high-quality and compliant teas by packers and supported the closure of tea production by November 30 to prevent poor-quality teas.
The Assam Government has implemented initiatives to ensure tea remains safe, MRL compliant, and transparent, including routing 100% of dust teas through a public platform for open testing.
Dr. Kota further advocated for promoting Assam tea solely as "Assam Tea," highlighting its unique taste on consumer packaging. He also encouraged exporters and blenders to establish processing units in Assam to enhance the value chain and contribute to the local economy.
