Manas: The state-level celebration of World Tourism Day, with the theme "Tourism and Peace," took place at Manas National Park, marking the reopening of the park for the eco-tourism season. The event was inaugurated by Assam’s Minister for Tourism, Jayanta Mallabaruah, and Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) Chief Executive Member (CEM), Pramod Boro, and was organised in collaboration with Assam Tourism, Bodoland Tourism, and the Forest Department.

In his address, Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah highlighted the significance of tourism as a driver of socio-economic growth. “Tourism is a key engine of growth, creating jobs and fostering economic opportunities. Our focus is to position Assam on the global tourism map by improving infrastructure and enhancing visitor experiences. The reopening of Manas National Park reflects our commitment to showcasing Assam’s natural beauty while empowering local communities,” he said.

BTC CEM Pramod Boro emphasised the role of peace in tourism development in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR). “With peace returning to BTR, the region is becoming an increasingly attractive destination for tourists. Eco-tourism not only helps preserve our natural heritage but also drives socio-economic development. We are dedicated to expanding eco-tourism initiatives to ensure sustainable growth while creating livelihood opportunities for local communities,” Boro stated.

The event underscored the park’s potential as a hub for sustainable tourism. To celebrate the occasion, Minister Mallabaruah and CEM Boro participated in a jeep safari through the national park and a rafting expedition on the Beki River, showcasing Manas’ adventurous side. With its diverse wildlife, scenic beauty, and adventure activities like rafting, the park is expected to attract many tourists this season.
As part of the celebrations, awards were presented to the winners of photography and videography competitions, along with recognitions for the best homestay and best guide. Earlier in the day, the Minister and CEM inaugurated a traditional procession, a Cycle Rally at Manas National Park, and a plantation program in Barangabari village, as part of the Green Bodoland Mission’s adopted village initiative.

The BTC government extended an open invitation to nature lovers and tourists to explore the beauty of Manas National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, known for its rich ecosystems and serene landscapes. The World Tourism Day event was attended by BTC Deputy Chief Gobindo Basumatary, Tourism Executive Member Dharma Narayan Das, ATDC Chairman Rituparno Baruah, and several senior officials from Assam and the BTC.
