Shillong: The National Commission for Women (NCW) has launched a two-day Regional Capacity Building Workshop and Conference on "Promoting Entrepreneurship among Indigenous Women of the North East Region based on Non-Timber Forest Produce" at the State Convention Centre in Shillong.
The initiative aims to empower tribal women living around forests to start businesses or work in their areas of Non-Timber Forest Produce. The NCW is taking this initiative especially for North Eastern women, as there is a large forest cover and they can increase their income by working in this area.
The expected outcomes include developing strategies for market integration, adopting relevant technologies, identifying bottlenecks, creating detailed action plans, enhancing efficiency and profitability, generating innovative ideas, diversifying income streams, enhancing economic resilience and sustainability, and creating a collaborative environment for promoting NTFP-based entrepreneurship among Indigenous women in the North Eastern Region.
The workshop will involve participants from various sectors, including state women commissions, line departments, and subject matter experts, to develop actionable plans and strategies for sustainable economic development through NTFP-based entrepreneurship.
