Agartala: In a significant move to revive industrial growth, the Tripura Industrial Development Corporation Limited (TIDC) has acquired the land and fixed assets of five long-abandoned industrial units in the Bodhjangnagar Industrial Complex in Tripura.

Speaking with Business North East (BNE), a senior official from TIDC, who did not wish to disclose his identity, said that the state government has taken multiple steps to revive industrial units in the state.

“The acquisition, conducted under the Tripura Public Premises Act, aims to repurpose the land for new industrial projects. The abandoned units—Narayan Kar & Associates, EDP Management Private Limited, Hahnemann Medical Research Private Limited, Rommel Industries Limited, and Icor Super Cement Private Limited—had been closed for a long time, leaving approximately 17 acres of valuable industrial land unused. Furthermore, these units had accumulated outstanding land rent amounting to Rs. 1.13 crore. Despite repeated demand notices, the owners failed to clear their dues, prompting the Corporation to take possession of the properties,” said the official.

He added that the decision to acquire and reallocate the land is expected to pave the way for new investments in the industrial sector.

TIDC officials have assured that the acquired land will be allotted to new industrial units in compliance with existing regulations to boost industrial development and generate employment opportunities.

“There are many individuals who have acquired land under the pretext of setting up industries but have never utilised it. We have taken steps to reclaim all such lands, properties, or buildings that were allocated for industrial purposes but remained unused. Recently, an MoU worth Rs. 3,700 crore was signed with various companies. We plan to repurpose this reclaimed land for them to foster industrial growth. With this strategic move, the state government aims to enhance industrial activity in Tripura, attract investors, and promote economic growth in the region,” he added.
