Dean of Academic Affairs, KV Krishna, has tendered his resignation following the incident, which has also led to calls for the resignation of Assistant Professor Rajkumar Thummer. Students have accused Thummer of violating the code of conduct, misuse of authority, and misconduct against students.
In response to the tragic event, IIT Guwahati has announced several measures aimed at improving student welfare. The administration is collaborating with local police to investigate the circumstances surrounding Kumar's death. To support students' mental health, extended counseling services are now available beyond regular hours, and QR codes linking to mental health resources and support contacts have been installed on hostel doors.
The institute is also emphasizing the Welfare Board's Peer Mentorship Program and community activities to foster a supportive environment and encourage peer interaction. In a bid to prevent future tragedies, IIT Guwahati is expanding wellbeing services, establishing peer support networks, reviewing safety protocols, launching awareness initiatives, and maintaining open communication channels.
The Director of IIT Guwahati has engaged in one-on-one discussions with students, reinforcing the institute's dedication to resolving their issues. The Dean's resignation is currently under review, and a decision regarding this will be made soon.
