Itanagar: SJVN Ltd, a state-owned power producer, has been allocated five hydroelectric projects in Arunachal Pradesh.
The projects are on the tributaries of the Dibang and have a total generation capacity of 5,097 MW. The five projects are named Etalin (3,097 MW), Attunii (680 MW), Emini (500 MW), Amulin (420 MW) and Mihumdon (400 MW).
The Arunachal Pradesh government has taken the decision to terminate agreements with various private power developers who showed less interest in executing the projects assigned to them. As a result, the government is now handing over these projects to central public sector undertakings like SJVN, NEEPCO, NHPC and THDC.
The development of these five hydroelectric projects will require an investment of over Rs 50,000 crore and is expected to significantly reduce carbon emissions by approximately 1.1 million tonnes per year. This initiative is a positive step towards promoting renewable energy and sustainable development in the region.
