Gangtok: A call took place between P.S. Golay, the Chief Minister of Sikkim, and DoNER & Union Tourism minister G. Kishan Reddy to discuss the scenario of the tourism sector in the state with a large number of Sikkimese people depending on the sector directly or indirectly. Currently, hill stations like Sikkim have become the preferred destination post-Covid-19.
P.S. Golay informed that Sikkim has maintained an excellent track record in filling up the tourism infrastructure gap at many destinations through Swadesh Darshan Schemes earlier sanctioned by the ministry and mentioned that Sikkim has achieved 1st position in implementing it.
But one of the priority projects under the Swadesh Darshan Scheme- III is pending with the Ministry of Tourism for the past two years and an intervention is required.
A lag was however seen in the project's progress due to the delay. The Chief Minister requested for the intervention and consideration of the Union Minister for the financial assistance for the Swadesh Darshan Scheme-III and PIDDC scheme in the best interest to strengthen the tourism avenues and opportunities.
P.S. Golay, the Chief Minister of Sikkim, was accompanied by Tourism minister B.S. Panth, Health minister Dr. M.K. Sharma, Lok Sabha MP Indra Hang Subba, and other senior officials.
