Sanjoy Kishan, Assam's Minister of Welfare of Tea Tribes and Minister of Labour & Employment, has expressed his enthusiasm for the development of the tea tourism sector in Assam. As outlined in the Assam Budget for 2024-2025, the enhancement of tea gardens is a key focus area. Kishan emphasized that the development of tea tourism will not only boost the local economy but also leverage the historical and cultural significance of the region. “This initiative will attract tourists by utilizing the British-era heritage sites associated with tea gardens,” he said.

In addition to tourism, Kishan highlighted ongoing improvements in healthcare and infrastructure within tea gardens. “Many tea gardens already provide ambulance services and free healthcare facilities. Future plans include expanding medical infrastructure, addressing unemployment, and advancing educational opportunities,” he noted.

The comprehensive development strategy aims to uplift the tea garden communities while preserving their unique heritage, ultimately fostering sustainable growth in Assam’s tea tourism sector.
