Guwahati: Rivtra LLP, founded by mechanical engineer Biswajit Saikia, is pioneering the use of inland waterways as a cost-effective and sustainable alternative to traditional cargo transport in Northeast India.

Saikia noted, "We started on December 8, 2023, with an initial capital investment of Rs.12 lakhs." He added that the company's first-year annual turnover is projected at Rs. 1.25 crore, with a customer base that includes the agriculture, cement, and infrastructure sectors. To further scale operations, an additional investment of  Rs. 25 lakhs is required.

In an interview with Business North East, Saikia explained, "Our journey began with extensive research to tackle the logistical challenges in this region. This research led to the development of a robust digital platform that streamlines the entire cargo transportation process—from booking to delivery."

Supported by Assam Startup – The Nest, IIM Calcutta Innovation Park (IIMCIP), and recognized by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DIPP), Rivtra has successfully transformed its vision into reality. Saikia, an alumnus of the National Institute of Technology, Jalandhar, brings expertise in Kaizen, Supply Chain Management, Automotive, and Strategic Sourcing to the venture.

Having completed proof-of-concept operations, Rivtra has proven the efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and sustainability of its model. The company’s approach includes online booking, real-time tracking, and SMS updates, making cargo transport via inland waterways both accessible and reliable.

"We developed Rivtra with the idea that anyone can send their goods through inland waterways by booking online and tracking their shipments in real-time," Saikia added.
