Guwahati: Think you are fit and strong? You can test your mettle at the ongoing ‘Raw Sports Expo’ event that is being held at the Sonaram field in Guwahati from December 8-10 where you stand a chance to win lucrative prizes on offer for the champions.

The USP of the event is that it features niche disciplines such a strongman, tug of war, and yogasana which are yet to enter the mainstream in Assam. “We have featured these games as we hope it will help them come into the limelight”, Kaushik Talukdar, one of the organizers, who won the coveted Mr Assam title in 2015, told Business North East. Achyut Kalita, the other organizer of the event, is a former Mr Universe.

Apart from the ‘raw’ events, this expo will also feature tried and tested disciplines such as body-building, a deadlift competition, and athletics where participants can try their luck.

Talukdar believes that these events could potentially help youths come out of drugs and other destructive habits. “The fitness world offers avenues which our youth can take instead of destroying their bodies. Therefore, in a way, we seek to promote health, nutrition, and competition as a counter to drug and substance abuse which are consuming the city youth”, he told Business North East.

If you are bitten by the fitness bug, you may also want to drop by at the ‘CaliGames 2.0’ event that is being held at the newly-renovated Shraddhanjali Kanan in the Zoo Road area on December 9 and 10. The event, featuring calisthenics showdowns among top athletes from the region, is organized by Califit Calisthenics, the first and only designated calisthenics centre in the Northeast. Apart from a dazzling display of calisthenics by athletes from across the Northeast, it also features other attractions such as a live music show, pop-up challenges, and MTB freestyling.

So, are you ready to unleash the beast in you?
