Railways reduces advance ticket booking period to 60 days from November

The Ministry of Railways announced on Thursday that the Indian Railways have cut the period for advanced ticket booking in half. Passengers can now reserve train tickets 60 days before the journey, as opposed to the previous 120-day limit. This adjustment will be implemented starting November 1. Passengers can still book tickets 120 days in advance until October 31, as per the announcement made by the Ministry of Railways. Passengers can now purchase train tickets up to 60 days before departure, as opposed to the previous 120-day limit.

New Advance Reservation Period for Train Tickets Set to Start November 1

This change will take effect starting November 1. Passengers are able to book tickets 120 days in advance of their journey until October 31. Starting from November 1, the Advance Reservation Period (ARP) will be set at 60 days (not including the day of travel) and reservations will be made in accordance with this change. Nevertheless, all reservations made up until October 31 with the Advanced Reservation Period of 120 days will stay unchanged, the Railways stated. Nonetheless, cancellations for reservations made after the new 60-day Advance Reservation Period will continue to be allowed.

Railways Maintain Current Reservation Periods for Daytime Express Trains Amid Changes for International Travelers

The Railways also stated that certain daytime express trains, like the Taj Express and Gomti Express, will not see any modification in their current shorter advance reservation periods. For international travelers, the deadline for making advance reservations will continue to be 365 days. Although the railways have not provided a reason for this decision, data indicates that tickets reserved far in advance (120 days) are frequently cancelled, whereas those booked closer to the travel date (within 60 days) are typically not cancelled. Officials are also optimistic that this adjustment will decrease unnecessary large bookings.
