Algier: President Droupadi Murmu has called for enhanced economic collaboration between India and Algeria, highlighting the North African nation’s rapid growth and the opportunities it presents across various sectors. Speaking at the Algerian-Indian Economic Forum on Monday, the President emphasized India's advancements in ‘Ease of Doing Business’ and invited Algerian businesses to participate in the ‘Make in India’ and ‘Make for the World’ initiatives.

Murmu stressed that the strengthening of India-Algeria relations is built on shared values, mutual trust, and common challenges. The forum was jointly organised by the Algerian Economic Renewal Council and the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI).

The President noted that bilateral trade between the two nations currently stands at USD 1.7 billion, but there is significant untapped potential in the economic partnership. She encouraged Indian companies to explore the opportunities presented by Algeria’s expanding economy and expressed India’s willingness to share its developmental experiences with Algerian counterparts.

Earlier in the day, President Murmu addressed the Indian community in Algeria, praising their contributions to the local economy and their role in fostering India’s interests and soft power in the region.

The President’s visit marks the first-ever tour by an Indian Head of State to Algeria, as part of her three-nation trip aimed at strengthening India-Africa relations. She will next visit Mauritania and Malawi.
