PM lays foundation for modernisation of 508 stations

56 stations within NFR also included for redevelopment

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually laid the foundation stones for re-developing 508 stations under the Amrit Bharat Scheme across the country on August 7. 
Governor of Assam Gulab Chand Kataria and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma were among the guests were virtually connected to the central programme from Narangi Railway Station.
Speaking on the occasion, the governor said this is a golden era in northeast rail connectivity and on behalf of the people of Assam thanked Modi and Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for improving rail connectivity in Assam and the northeastern states. 
“It is a matter of pride for the people of Assam that 32 stations in Assam will be modernized under Amrit Railway Stations,” said Sarma as he thanked Modi and the ministry for allocating Rs 10,000 crore in the budget to improve railway connectivity of Northeast. He said that NFR is doing “tremendous work” in undergoing various infrastructural works throughout the region.
The 508 stations will be redeveloped at a cost of more than Rs 24,470 crore. These stations are spread across 27 states and union territories, including 55 each in Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan, 49 in Bihar, 44 in Maharashtra, 37 in West Bengal, 34 in Madhya Pradesh, 32 in Assam, 25 in Odisha, 22 in Punjab, 21 each in Gujarat and Telangana, 20 in Jharkhand, 18 each in Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, 15 in Haryana, 13 in Karnataka among others. A total of 91 stations of NFR have been identified under the Amrit Bharat station scheme.
