Bengaluru: Prime Minister Narendra Modi kicked off Oil India Limited's (OIL) indigenous hydrogen fuel cell-based e-bus during the Indian Energy Week.
This hydrogen fuel cell-powered bus was created domestically by OIL as part of its Startup initiative, which is part of the Government of India's National Hydrogen Mission and Atmanirbhar Bharat goal (SNEH).
The fuel cell inside the bus uses hydrogen to create energy, which powers the electric motor and also charges an auxiliary battery that supplies backup power for braking and acceleration. The 60 KW fuel cell generates power using proton exchange membrane (PEM) technology. Buses have a 21.9 kg tank capacity at 350 bar of pressure.
There is a great deal of interest in India's efforts to reduce carbon emissions as part of its green growth march. One of India's four verticals in its energy plan is decarbonization using hydrogen and electric vehicles, said Ranjit Rath, CMD, OIL.
It should be noted that the bus is equipped with a wheelchair lift and can fit 32 people, including the driver.
The India Energy Week, which began on February 8 and was held in Bengaluru, included significant energy innovation. Over a hundred exhibitors from different parts of the world attended the G20 event.
